        SAVE FOOD AND STOP WASTE

Reusable Transport Packaging (RTP) for fruit and vegetables has great advantages over disposable cardboard packaging. According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute, thousands of tonnes of produce are disposed of every year due to transport damage. Reusable packaging, on the other hand, is more stable and has a significantly lower damage rate.

We took a closer look at the representations of the FEFCO and compared them with the results of Fraunhofer studies.

Conclusion: reusable trays made of plastic clearly offer both economic and ecological advantages compared to disposable cardboard boxes. When considering the scientific study situation holistically, assertions from the FEFCO presentation can either be classified as implausible or in some cases even refuted.

        Studies of the foundation

The Stiftung Initiative Mehrweg collaborates with renowned independent testing institutes. These are commissioned to conduct studies with relevance to reusable systems. Among others, such institutes include the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, department of holistic balancing.

Thus, we regularly provide decision-makers from politics and business with up-to-date figures. The studies are available for download.

        Foundation

The "Stiftung Initiative Mehrweg" (SIM) has been founded in 1996 as a foundation under civil law with legal capacity and its headquarters in Berlin.

It is dedicated to providing sustainable support for the conservation of resources and environmental protection. It is committed to creating the preconditions for sustainably stabilising and increasing reusable shares in all economic sectors.

In cooperation with environmental and trade associations as well as reusable-oriented companies, individual topics are (scientifically) elaborated on each year and demands for the promotion of reusable packaging are introduced into the environmental policy dialogue.
